Faye Webster wanted her show to feel like a magical, fantasy landscape reminiscent of the Dungeons & Dragons and Warhammer games. Together we created a beautiful, mind-bending, alternate universe complete with mirror balls, 6-foot tall rocks, and massive 35'-foot-wide video projections, all able to be packaged within a single, standard touring trailer.
The focal point of the show's visuals was the backdrop (custom artwork designed by Nicolas Degaudenzi, with creative direction by me, Faye, and Faye's management). In the foreground of the image is an alternate-reality Faye Webster avatar with a glowing aura, sitting atop a jagged rocky structure. The background is a blank, white screen, which allows for projection mapping to constantly transform the setting for each song (projection visuals and content composed by me).
The simple, yet effective, floor lighting package was meant to compliment the projected visuals. The design consisted of a handful of spot and batten fixtures placed upstage to backlight the band and to create aerial effects. Three mirrorballs were placed between these lights to create even more dynamics within the show.
Additionally, the design inlcuded a center spot fixture, flown on the upstage truss. This fixture was meant to highlight Faye. This spotlight effect added a ton of drama to the moodier moments of the set.
And finally, the set design consisted of four large, fantasy rock set pieces in the same style as the rock formations in the backdrop artwork. These created a lot of depth on stage and really helped to gel the creative concept of the entire show.
