Little Rope Tour 2024

Sleater-Kinney wanted their show to feel like an elegant, interior space. Additionally, they wanted arches integrated into the design, akin to the album artwork and loosely based on some of recent music video imagery. The final design felt huge but intimate, much like the music of the band, without breaking the bank.
The set design consisted of two backdrops, one solid white, and one grey with arches cutout from it, spaced a few feet apart with lights placed between them. This spacing and light placement allowed the cutout backdrop to function as a mask of the cyc, letting the arches shine brightly in different colors while the columns of the archways remain silhouetted. The was a great, budget-friendly way of creating the look of a huge space with interesting use of form and shape.
To make the stage feel more like an interior space, we rigged two large chandeliers above the band. The chandeliers were powered by DMX dimmers to allow them to flash in and out to the dynamics of the songs.
Three very bright strobe/wash fixtures, one for each arch, and for each upstage band memeber, were placed just in front of the arches, behind the band.
Four moving spots were placed in the gaps of the risers. These helpped to fill in the gaps and create movement.
Three blinders were placed in front of each of the risers. These were used as an additional strobe element and as additional blinders to use in conjuntion with venue blinders.
A total of 24 pixel bars were used to create the outter columns that framed the stage. Using pixel-mapping I was able to generate creative and unique looks for each song that helped to add a ton of extra energy and personality to the set.
